Unfinished Network Projects

If you are like me, you probably have a long list of projects around the house and many of them in an unfinished state. How does that happen? For me, I'm usually working away when I come to the point where I 1) Don't have the right tool, 2) ran out of something or 3) am interrupted by a phone call, my wife or kids. Many times, I don't return to that project for a long time. What does that have to do with Networking you ask? Well, networks are a project in progress and many times we are called away or need more information before we can finish. Where does that leave the project? In an unfinished state.

If your organization is anything like the most of the ones that I work with, the network support team is understaffed. This is the type of environment where router configuration changes can be left in an unfinished state. How do you know if you or another one of your colleagues has unfinished work in your network? You need to know if you have unsaved or incomplete configurations because it’s really hard to troubleshoot a problem when a configuration isn’t what you think it is.

I'd love to have an automatic reminder to put that electrical outlet in the basement back together. In fact, now that I think of it, that's where I am headed.
