If you navigate to Settings>Setup>Collectors and Groups>Global you will see several options pertaining to how Vendor Default credentials are handled in the NetMRI.
1. Allowing Vendor Default SNMP Community Strings to be guessed for devices and subsequently used for collection.
Under Network Polling>SNMP Collection selecting the option for Use Vendor Default Community Strings will allow the NetMRI to use Vendor Default Community Strings when guessing the appropriate SNMP credentials for your devices. The NetMRI will subsequently use the guessed credentials when it collects SNMP data.
To identify all credentials considered to be "Vendor Defaults" by the NetMR, navigate to Settings>Setup>SNMP Credentials. Only those credentials with an Origination of Vendor or Vendor (user add) are considered to be Vendor Default credentials.
2. Allowing Vendor Default CLI Credentials to be guessed for devices and subsequently used for collection.
Under Config Management>Config Collection selecting the option for Use Vendor Default Credentials will allow the NetMRI to use Use Vendor Default Credentials when guessing the appropriate CLI credentials for your devices. The NetMRI will subsequently use the guessed credentials when it polls for config changes.
To identify all credentials considered to be "Vendor Defaults" by the NetMR, navigate to Settings>Setup>CLI Credentials. Only those credentials with a Use of Vendor are considered to be Vendor Default credentials.
3. Having the NetMRI periodically check devices for the presence of Vendor Default Credentials (SNMP/CLI).
Under Config Management selecting the option for Vendor Default Credential Collection will tell the NetMRI periodically attempt to log-into your devices (SNMP/CLI) using its list of Vendor Default credentials. If it finds one or more sets of Vendor Default Credentials that work on a given device, the NetMRI will fire the Vendor Defaults Found issue and notify you of the offending device and the credentials which were found to be available. You can select the frequency of this test by toggling the Frequency selector between Weekly and Daily.
Note: Selecting Daily for this test can increase your network traffic and workload on your devices. It is recommended that this be used as an auditing tool and enabled periodically.
