cannot login to netmri virtual appliance via browser

I tried to access our virtual appliance and the browser instead displayed a number of database errors.  I restarted the appliance a couple of times and each time noticed that the avahi daemon failed to start.  Subsequent attempts to access the device (via a web browser) resulted in the following message:

    Unauthorized

This server could not verify that you are authorized to access the document requested. Either you supplied the wrong credentials (e.g., bad password), or your browser doesn't understand how to supply the credentials required.

Apache/2.2.3 (Red Hat) Server at 10.1.2.190 Port 443

This comes up immediately following the usual notice regarding the websites security certificate.  The login for the device will not come up.

I do not know how to get around inside the OS so any instructions to do so need to be pretty simple. Would I be best off to just blow it away and recreate the appliance?

    Hi Jennifer,

After you imported the VM Instance, did you log into the CLI and run the command 'configure network'?  If you have not done so, I would try this before removing and retrying the import.  To do so:

    - Access console via your VM Controller
    - Select to Login
    - Use the username and password of admin / admin
    - at the prompt, type 'configure server'
    - Go through the setup steps to configure the netmri database and network settings
    - confirm the settings

At this point, I would then type 'reboot' after the configure server command completes to be safe.  After the netmri comes back online, retry connecting to the web interface.

    Thanks,
    Shawn

This appliance was successfully set up and working fine for a while prior to the current problem.

When I open the console to the appliance I don't know how to get a command line prompt.  I have a few meun options ... to login as admin, set time zone, set the ip address, etc but not just a plain command prompt.  How do I get that?

If you choose "login" from the VMWare console, you will be prompted for a username and password, and will then end up at a command prompt.

I appear to be logging in correctly but after the screen flashes briefly (the only thing I can see is the timstamp for the login) it takes me back out to the initial screen with the same 3 options (login, ip address, time zone).  None of those are the default settings....all of them were changed following the initial installation.
