General NetMRI Product Answers

1. Q: What is NetMRI?
A: NetMRI is a network management product focused on Network Configuration and Change Management (NCCM). It enables you to automate network change, see the impact of changes to your network health, manage network configurations and meet compliance. NetMRI audits multi-vendor infrastructures, identifies anomalies early, speeds resolution, and automates network changes. You can test drive NetMRI by getting your free 30 day trial version of the software.

2. Q: How does NetMRI work?
A: Upon initial configuration, NetMRI performs an automated and thorough network asset and topology discovery, leveraging many sources of information. As devices and topologies are discovered, NetMRI automatically applies built-in analysis to proactively find hidden problems lurking in your network. NetMRI then continually collects configuration, change, topology, performance, and status information about the network for ongoing 24/7 automated analysis against NetMRI's built-in databases of networking best practices, rules and policies, and/or your own policies and best practices, showing immediately any out-of-policy or out-of-compliance network elements. It also has the ability to detect changes in real-time, show configuration differences, push changes out, and features a number of other capabilities required to help eliminate network degradation and automate routine network maintenance.

3. Q: What is NCCM?
A: Network Configuration and Change Management

4. Q: Why is NCCM important to my business?
A: According to findings by the major IT research firms, the #1 cause of network outages and degradations is people making changes—60-80% of network issues are associated with changes made by people. By controlling change, you can make a big impact on the availability of the network to support business functions. And NCCM products, such as NetMRI are focused on dealing with this issue.

5. Q: How is NetMRI different than other NCCM products?
A: NetMRI is unique in a number of different ways. The most important differences include:

  • NetMRI provides a daily actionable list of network issues, before end-users are impacted, based on hundreds of built-in intelligence rules, according to networking best practices.
  • NetMRI is the only system that correlates network change and configuration with network health and performance, so you can identify the impact of change on network performance
  • NetMRI is a physical or VMware virtual appliance-based solution that plugs into the network in less than 30 minutes and provides valuable information in the first few hours, all via a purely web based interface
  • Built-in compliance reports show exactly where your network is vulnerable and how to correct them
  • Requires little or no ongoing maintenance
  • Provides high level views of the performance of the network with the ability to drill down to very granular details if needed
  • Helps meet compliance requirements with built-in reports including PCI, HIPAA, SOX, and others

6. Q: I already have a network management product, why do I need NetMRI?
A: Most deployed network management tools do not adequately address the network change, configuration and compliance requirements for organizations. NetMRI allows users to take control of change across the network so they can understand the impact of change on network health, build and enforce standardization and improve staff efficiency. NetMRI can work in conjunction with other framework management tools to give users a wide range of visibility across the entire network infrastructure.

7. Q: How is NetMRI priced and packaged?
A: NetMRI comes on an appliance (physical or VMware virtual) with the OS and database integrated. The product is priced by the number of network devices. For detailed pricing information please contact your local sales rep at .

8. Q: How long does it take to deploy NetMRI?
A: For the VMware virtual appliance downloadable version, the initial time to download the software will vary, depending on your internet connection. Once downloaded, or the physical appliance has been plugged into your network, NetMRI is typically deployed within 30 minutes.

9. Q: Does NetMRI support multi-vendor networks?
A: Yes.

10. Q: Does NetMRI graphically represent the network?
A: Yes, NetMRI has an enhanced topology view that graphically represents the complex relationship between multiple devices across your entire infrastructure.

11. Q: Does NetMRI support IPv6?
A: Yes, when the IPv6 capability is licensed.

12. Q: Does NetMRI support SNMPv3?
A: Yes.

13. Q: Can information gathered by NetMRI be exported?
A: Yes, NetMRI data can be exported via built-in UI and reporting features, as well as with an available API.

14. Q: Can NetMRI support VoIP deployments?
A: Yes. Adding the VoIP module gives NetMRI the ability to collect call data records from Cisco and Avaya call servers, and merge the call records with network analytics, giving you a single view of calls and network performance. Each call can be analyzed and displayed graphically to show which network device or devices impacted a particular call. Proactively detecting VoIP issues on the network becomes a breeze.

15. Q: Does NetMRI support multiple users?
A: Yes, NetMRI has the ability to assign unique user and role definitions to ensure IT staff has the right level of access while minimizing the risk of unauthorized or poor configuration changes.

16. Q: Can I evaluate the product before buying?
A: Yes. You can download NetMRI with 30 day full functionality from our website.

17. Q: How does NetMRI help us meet compliance?
A: The biggest challenges to meeting any compliance efforts are to:

  • Understand how your network is setup
  • Know where you need to pay attention, and what needs correcting
  • Understand how to make sure compliance is met consistently over time

NetMRI can help you achieve compliance in all 3 stages, by providing automatic pre and post network compliance assessments, give you a complete inventory of the network and how things are connected, showing you issues around the network related to performance, change, and security, and listing out-of-policy and out-of-compliance network elements. All this actionable information is available via a web browser and fully automated, built-in compliance reports.

18. Q: We are a software reseller. How do I offer NetMRI to my customers?
A: Please fill out this form and we will contact you.

Downloadable NetMRI VMware Virtual Appliance Answers

1. Q: How is the VMware virtual appliance NetMRI different than the physical appliance?
A: Other than the lack of a physical box, there is no difference. In the virtual appliance you still get the OS, the software, and the packaged database.

2. Q: How is the 30 day trial VMware downloadable version of NetMRI different than the actual purchased product?
A: There is no difference between the VMware downloadable version of NetMRI and the purchased product. The downloadable version can be evaluated for 30 days and monitors up to 25 network devices (routers, switches, firewalls, etc.) and 1,000 interfaces. And, if needed, the same software that is downloaded can be licensed for more devices, without the need to download and/or install new software. You simply purchase a new license for more devices. Please contact us to add additional licenses.
