CCCIconsultant John Stone has a unique distinction. He's currently the only Cisco training partner instructor certified by Cisco Systems to teach its new ATM class! The first class begins in April.
If you want to learn the nuts and bolts of ATM, John's the person to talk with. That's not only because he's a soft-spoken guy who goes out of his way to help people. It's also because he's been "wired" since he was a kid.
John has always had an interest in technology. His first two jobs out of school were in broadcasting, as an electronics technician at an Oakland station and chief engineer at an Annapolis station. Later, he became an electronics technician at the U.S. Naval Academy, where he progressed to systems programming and software maintenance. As John's interests continued to evolve from the analog to the digital world, he earned a B.S. in Computer Science from the University of Maryland and became a senior software engineer at the IIT Research Institute.
Like many of CCCI 's other consultant-instructors, John has broad hardware and software experience, including VMS system programming and UNIX system administration, network and computer security design, data communications design, and network design management and troubleshooting. His well-rounded background makes him both a sought after consultant and an effective internetworking technology instructor.
"Everything I learned in broadcasting, such as how signals propagate, finds some use in network engineering," says John.
John's background in telecommunications adds an extra dose of insight into the mixed media (data, voice, and video) world of ATM.
Whether you need help configuring and managing ATM technology now, or want a fundamental understanding of ATM for future use, look intoCCCI 's Cisco ATM Solutions (ATMS) course. It offers extensive hands-on lab experience on the Lightstream 100 ATM switch and the ATM Interface Processor (AIP) module.
When John's not in the field providing consulting services, he also teachesCCCI 's Introduction to Cisco Router Configuration, andInstallation and Maintenance of Cisco Routers courses. He's also slated to take the CCIE examination in April. John's schedule is full, but he likes that.
"There are many interesting developments going on in network technology,ATM being one. It takes a lot of time to keep up with it all, but I enjoy the subject," he says.
