Tech Tip: Frame-Relay
If you are faced with a bandwidth shortage and you currently have 56K Frame Relay circuits installed, see if your service provider has a complete T1 installed to your site. T1s have the capability to have up to 24 different Frame Relay Circuits. If you are using only one of the available 24 circuits, you might be able to work out a reasonable fee with your service provider to add the
bandwidth of a new circuit to your existing circuit... solving your
bandwidth shortage, without actually having to get your own T1. There
is a break even point at which it is cheaper to get a dedicated T1
instead of just an additional circuit; however, fees vary by provider.
